If you are experiencing problems with the quality of your indoor air, you are not alone. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has identified the poor quality of indoor air as a major health threat. "In the last several years, a growing body of scientific evidence has indicated that the air within homes and other buildings can be more seriously polluted than the outdoor air in even the largest and most industrialized cities," the agency wrote in a report on the topic.

EPA notes that many people spend a lot of time indoors, especially if they are ill - and thus more susceptible to the dangers posed by mold, bacteria, combustion gases, smoke, dust and other airborne threats.

C.K. Smith offers solutions that can make a big difference. We sell and install the Aprilaire® Whole House Air Cleaner, which turns your warm-air heating/central air system into an air cleansing system for every room. Taking advantage of those existing systems, which routinely exchange large volumes of air, is a smart way to remove dangerous particles and create a safer home.

We can also make winter more comfortable with an Aprilaire Whole Home Humidifier. It works with a heating system to raise the moisture level throughout the house, improving your comfort and safeguarding your home and furnishings against the ravages of over-dry air. Aprilaire pioneered this technology starting in 1954, and their systems come with a humidity controller that lets you adjust the level to suit your comfort. The Aprilaire system does not require the daily cleaning or disinfecting that portable units need, and there is no reservoir of standing water where microbial organisms can breed.

Adding humidity in winter can also reduce your heating bills. Air that is properly humidified feels warmer and more comfortable than dry air, so you can set the thermostat to a lower temperature without sacrificing your comfort.
